The first time I took restorative yoga, I hated it. I did not love the instructor. I felt like there was something off about the energy of the class, and I had no idea what I was walking into. After hearing other teaches rave about this other teacher’s restorative class, I decided to go for it.
For those of you unfamiliar with restorative yoga, it is a very gentle class where the teacher uses props, such as sandbags, bolsters, blankets, and eye pillows to hold you in each pose. There are generally 4 poses that you are held in for about 15 minutes each.
This really is a very meditative relaxing class. Which also makes it a great challenge for those of us who have never meditated or who are new to it.
That being said, after trying a new class out I fell in love! I have made it a habit to get to my restorative class on Monday nights. It starts my week off right and I feels great to just de-stress, especially on a Monday night. I even fell asleep in my last class, and didn’t even wake up for savasana!
Even if you loath this class the first time, give it a second chance. Your body, mind and spirit with thank you!
